30 year old from Chicago, Illinois. I had been aware of Nuke for years, but never watched their story until Summer 2011 when I finally decided to check it out on Youtube. To my great surprise, I ended up watching all 221 parts of Luke's Story and all 485 parts of Luke and Noah's story in just under 2 months. Needless to say, I was hooked! I was traumatized (only a slight exaggeration!) by the horrible ending for Nuke and how poorly the writers treated the pairing, fans of the pairing, and Jake Silbermann during the final 10 months. I turned to fanfiction to seek the satisfying endgame ending the show denied me and have now fallen in love, not just with reading nukefic, but writing it as well. :)

Since you have been so kind and supportive of my first fic efforts, I wanted to let you know how much I loved this one. I am a Nuke fan who only caught their story on youtube after the show ended. I read this story just a few days after finishing the series and being deeply saddened that Nuke were denied the emotional onscreen reunion they deserved. This story cheered me up immensly and helped to initiate me into the world of nukefic. It felt like it really could have been the ending to the show. (well, except for the graphic sex, that would have been an unfortunate fade to black as they went upstairs.) I could just picture the triumphant music swelling as Luke said, "You should have made it eight seconds." :) I love that Noah succeeded in proving to Luke how terribly wrong he was with the "we were not right for each other" nonsense. Hearing that line felt like a dagger through the heart when I first saw that scene, so it was very meaningful to see Noah prove Luke wrong in such an intense and sexy way. There's a lot of heart packed into this very short story! :)

Author's Response:

If the graphic sex had been included in the broadcast, the show might've stayed on the air LOL.  (Though this isn't as graphic as Marked -- if *that* had been broadcast, the show would have immediately been pulled, and CBS would've been heavily fined!)

Seriously, thank you for your comments on this story.  I'm glad this felt true to their characters for you.  This was one of the first things in Nukefic I wrote, when pretty much every story I wrote was just a different endgame scenario.  I've tried to branch out since then, but I think writing Nuke-getting-back-together stories is still my favorite way to write them.

I hope you'll be contributing some more fic of your own here soon!  Whether it be a continuation of Dear Noah or something entirely new.  You really have a knack for getting inside the guys' heads and fleshing out their thoughts and feelings.  Can't wait for more!

Oh, my, is it just me or is it hot in here? :)

What a great, fun, sweet story, Tom. I am amused and delighted by how succinctly you got the boys reunited and got on with the hot sex!

This story gets to the heart of what makes Nuke such a special couple. When the show's writers weren't weighing them down with contrived angst, they were (and are) two people who truly love being together and who have fun together, in the bedroom or just in daily life. You have captured that perfectly here, along with a really creative sex scene.

I will probably always think of this story when I see or eat a cadbury cream egg!

Tom,
I have been meaning to read your award winning story FOREVER and now I'm wondering what took me so long. This is just delightful. I love the way in which you mixed Greek mythology with biblical literature. And Noah the demigod is just hilarious, such a pure soul. I'm looking forward to reading more in the coming days :)

Author's Response: Thank you, Jim :) Glad you liked the start of this. Gotta say that this was one of my most enjoyable stories to write. It was a blast to try and mix some Greek mythology into a story of Luke & Noah. I know it was "a little out there", but it was fun to write. The comedy surrounding Noah's innocence and how he means well was, in particular, the most fun to create.

I am loving the underlying tension of the possible next flood and I am enjoying the dynamic between Luke and demigod Noah. You have done a great job portraying how magnetic demigod Noah is.

Tom,
One of your greatest gifts in terms of writing Nukefic is staying true to the essence of the characters while placing them in completely different scenarios than we are used to seeing them. And Emma's rules are back again-we'll see how long that lasts :)

Author's Response: Thanks for that comment :) I know I create some wild scenarios sometimes, but I try to go back to what I saw and heard on the show when creating dialogue and their reactions in situations---I want to lend some "realism" to what I'm writing. Yes, Emma's rules....Emma is Emma, always :)

So much to love about this chapter! Drunk demigod Noah is hilarious and I love how happy Maddie and Casey are for Luke. And now the truth is out-Noah has wings! (as if he couldn't get any hotter!)

Author's Response: ABSOLUTELY My FAVORITE chapter of the story :) I LOVED introducing Noah to Casey and Maddie and giving him an outlet to release some tension (on the dance floor!! hahahaha). Underlying his evening out with Luke and his friends (and probably one of the reasons he got drunk of Long Island Teas) was his desire to "fit in", to have friends, to BE LIKED. I pictured Noah the demigod as a sweet and innocent soul (yet wise in some respects) who was dutiful, worked hard, loving and giving to a fault, and also missed having friends--real people around him. He'd been living up in the Heavens for so long around the gods without really having someone close to him (whether a lover or just a friend). That nice, he was anxious to make a good impression, partly because he liked Luke and wanted to impress Luke's friends, and partly because he just wanted to be liked himself, and enjoy himself, and experience human life for a change. That unfortunately led to one-too-many LI teas, but oh well :)

You never fail to awe me with your fertile and creative imagination. If I get to be half as talented as you, I will consider myself fortunate :)

Ok, so this demigod sex (which I hope against hope is coming soon!) is going to rock Luke's world!

I laughed out loud at Luke reevaluating everything he ever thought he knew about God. And yet, at the same time, it seems that the heart of the Snyder family's Christian faith is in harmony with the generous spirit of Zeus and especially demigod Noah. I'm intrigued to see how you wrap this up in the last two chapters!

Author's Response: I didn't want to go too far into Luke's faith, but I thought he HAD to have some kind of reaction to learning that there are gods are up there affecting destiny. How does that fit with his Christian faith?? I didn't want to go too far down that path other than to describe a wise, generous and all-knowing (and all powerful) Zeus. Then let the reader figure it out. Glad you liked it! I must confess, at this point in the game, I was thinking, "how do I wrap this up?????"

A brilliant conclusion to a deservedly award winning story, Tom. Having Noah's former life as a demigod be Luke's little secret was an inspired choice. So glad I FINALLY got around to taking the journey that is this story! :)

Author's Response: I thought a homeless shelter fit with Noah's intentions to do well, as well as Zeus knowing truly what man needs. And I couldn't resist ending up with the whole premise becoming Luke's SECRET! And the final question? Who truly is the Reluctant Hero? Noah, an innocent and well-intentioned demigod sent to Earth to save mankind and be a hero (and he does in many ways), or Luke, the young man drawn into this bizarre plot who can barely swing a hammer yet does end up giving it his "all"? You decide :) Thanks so much for reading and for all your meaningful comments :) They've caused me to go back and remember my thoughts at the time of writing this :) Tom

Tom, I'm not usually a caps lock kind of person in reviews but IF I HAVE EVER READ ANTHING HOTTER THAN THIS, I DON'T REMEMBER IT. Seriously, WOW. It had never occured to me to fantasize about sex in the sky with a hot winged demigod, but now....:) What a way to lose your virginity!

And it's not even just that it was hot, but that it was written so beautifully and magically. Luke's memory of his childhood desire to fly juxtaposed against Noah taking him to soaring heights (in more ways than one!) was deeply moving to me.

Just brilliant. With the groundwork you had laid previously, you completely earned all of the emotions on display in this chapter. I bow to your genius, my friend!

Author's Response: WOW! I will take all caps, thank you! :) Indeed, what a way to have sex for the first time! haha. Glad you liked Luke's memory :) (was actually mine...it was a ride at Six Flags over Georgia that I rode when I was a kid and couldn't get over the force that kept you spinning and plastered against the wall!! I remember being amazed as a kind. Favorite ride there.) YES, Noah took them both to new heights!! Glad you liked this :) Thank you so much :)

Tom, thanks for your thoughtful responses to my reviews :)
One more point that I thought I had included in my Chapter 8 review, but apparently did not, was that the ONE and ONLY thing that I think would have made this fic even better than it already is is if Lucinda had been included in some way. Her reactions to demigod Noah and the building project seem rife with potential for comic gold. But that is an extremely minor quibble. I finished reading this yesterday morning and continued to ponder its themes throughout the day. There really is just so much here! Thanks again!
Jim

Author's Response: You know, what an excellent point! God, you're right. I had never thought of writing in Lucinda, but her reactions to Noah and his project would have been priceless - comic gold as you say. Oh well. maybe a sequel? haha.

Very excited to read an update of this great story! One of the most touching moments in endgame fics for me is how overjoyed Luke's family always is about the reunion. That was beautifully done here.

I am very intrigued with whatever you're doing with Casey/Reid. I'm not entirely sure what that is yet, but you're clearly doing something. I do have a strong feeling, though, that this will be your endgame fic where Reid will get some kind of satisfying ending of his own. :)

Author's Response: Thanks, Jim. Considering how Luke's family always felt about Noah, I think none of us can help but write his family as anything less than thrilled when the boys reunite. Though now you've got my wheels turning - making me want to try a fic where they reunite and all the Snyders are against it. LOL!

Reviewer: jb1183 Signed starstarstarstarstar
Date: January 12, 2012 Title: Chapter 6: Aftermaths

"Luke got it, now. Noah was too noble - too good - to be okay with what had happened. It didn't matter that he couldn't stand Reid; Noah just wasn't the kind of person who purposely hurt others. It was one of ten thousand reasons Luke loved him so much."

See? That right above? That's why you're one of my favorite nukefic authors. I love that you recognize this truth about Noah's character. I am truly saddened when I see people write that Noah is a horrible, selfish person who never gave anything to Luke. Noah is a wonderful and profoundly generous person who just happens to carry some deep psychological scars. Terrible and painful time aside, his gentle and quiet strength are a great blessing to Luke's life. I will never understand why this is so hard for some people to acknowledge.

I don't know if it was intentional on your part or not, but in comparing Noah's response here with Reid's total lack of any feelings of guilt or personal responsibilty in hurting Noah, the contrast between the two men couldn't be clearer to me. If it was intentional, bravo! If it wasn't intentional, bravo, still!

I am delighted to see an update on this one. After a somewhat bad day, it was comforting to get a little Nuke endgame in my life.

I completed a new one-shot just before Christmas, but it has been trapped in "awaiting validation" limbo ever since, so hopefully it will appear on the site soon! :)

Author's Response:

It wasn't intentional for me to compare Noah's guilt with Reid's lack of guilt.  The point is that Noah, who always shoulders too much blame on himself anyway, believes himself very much in the wrong here.  The kicker is that while he feels he and Luke should have waited until Luke had broken up with Reid, Noah also knows that he wouldn't change it, given the chance.  Trying to reconcile that fact with his very strong sense of right and wrong is a struggle for him.

Additionally, even though he blames Reid for a lot (justifiably, to an extent), Noah feels like he's now done even worse.  Reid shouldn't have dated his patient's ex while still treating that patient, and he shouldn't have kept it a secret.  But Noah and Luke were broken up when Reid and Luke became involved, and Noah knows that for all intents and purposes, he and Luke cheated.  In his mind, however wrong Reid was, Noah now feels *more* in the wrong, and that's a tough pill to swallow, because he sees his own behavior as lesser than someone whose behavior he found appalling.

This is not to say I agree with him or not; just that it's how *Noah* feels about things in this moment.  Maybe with time he'll judge himself less harsly.
Looking forward to your new fic!

*fans self* Wow, that's some hot stuff and also so very touching. Luke nearly sleeping with Reid on the very same night that Noah was laying possibly brain damaged in the hospital is a sore spot for me. I know he was an emotional mess at the time and he did put a stop to it, but I was still disappointed that he even let it get that far. So I love the idea that Luke went out after that and got tattoos proclaiming who he really belonged with. It just seems like a very "Luke Snyder" thing to do in this situation. Anyway, another great story! I never get tired of reading about these two getting back together!

Author's Response:

This is definitely the raciest multi-chapterd story I've ever written.  I didn't set out to make it that way, but it sort of turned out like that due to the specifics of the situation (and the location of those tatoos lol).  Still, the emotion between the two guys drove this for me, and I'm glad you felt that, too.

I totally agree that having Luke nearly sleep with Reid while Noah was fighting for his life was a TERRIBLE choice on ATWT's part.  I forget how I decided that's when Luke got his tatoos; probably just because he was so out-of-his-mind that night.  So I liked the idea of him sort of overcorrecting a huge mistake like this.

Thanks for reading, and sharing your feedback!  Are we going to see something from you in the near future?  *makes puppy-dog eyes*

"And Noah simply was low-key. He was polite, worked hard, and was willing to pitch in when a local citizen or cause needed a helping hand. He never sought to draw attention to himself, or competed to be the life of the party."

This is such a succinct and pitch perfect description of Noah. And, as far as I'm concerened, that quiet, gentle, and unassuming nature of his provides a perfect balance for Luke's more intense and animated personality. Great insight!

Thus far in the story, I have enjoyed the way in which you have articulated both boys' perspectives so eloquently. Noah is so misunderstood and unfairly maligned by a lot of people, so I love to read fic that presents his POV with the same amount of respect and empathy as Luke's.

Author's Response:

If anything, I am usually less empathetic towards Luke, and have to be careful to treat him well lol.  Not because I don't love him, but because I'm a Noah girl.  I automatically sympathize with him first and foremost.  And it's Noah's unassuming nature, gentle spirit, and concern for others that draws me to him. :)

"It all seemed rather stupid, now. How the hell could Luke protect his heart from Noah, when Noah was his heart? What lunacy had convinced him he could do this - he could live the rest of his life without Noah?"

and

"Noah sank into Luke for the first time in a year. Each subsequent plunge seemed not only to take them both to the height of pleasure, but push out all the hurt and regret between them. They both felt it, and each clawed the other tighter still, willing all the bad to be driven out by the blinding bliss that was them. They soared together, then fell together, until each man lay contented and boneless in the other’s arms."

I find both of these parts tremendously moving. Beautiful writing! :)

This story ROCKED from start to finish. Very compelling, carefully constructed, and well paced. I did not see Reid's return at the end coming at all. But I was very pleased about it for two specific reasons. Firstly, even though I'm not a Reid fan (at all) and I resented him coming between Luke and Noah, I didn't want him to get beaten to death. I'm not a monster :) And secondly, I think it is much more satisfying for Nuke fans to see Luke choose Noah when Reid is alive rather than after he is dead.

Congratulations on writing such an excellent full length story. It was a pleasure to read and earned a "10" from me!

Author's Response:

"I think it is much more satisfying for Nuke fans to see Luke choose Noah when Reid is alive rather than after he is dead."

OMG... THIS.

That is EXACTLY why I almost always write Reid as alive and as if the train as never happened.  BECAUSE IN ANY BELIEVABLE UNIVERSE, LUKE WOULD ALWAYS PICK NOAH IN THE END.  And I would rather see that happen than for Reid to be needlessly smooshed.  GAH.  *shakes head at ATWT powers-that-be for the 1200th time*

Nic,
I went on vacation last week, and wanted to choose one of my favorite multi-chapter fics to read during the train trips to and from my destination.
This fic remains one of my absolute favorites and was the obvious choice.

Being a very unhappy Nuke fan at the end of the show, endgames have always been my favorite nukefic genre and this one, with its insight, humor, mystery, and heart, is among the best I have ever read. It was delightful to read it again, and I'm sure it won't be the last time!

Author's Response: Thanks, Jim. I have never been totally satisfied with this one (I had to rush to re-write the end for the BB deadline after losing the last part), but your comments make me feel better about it!

Gillian, you just excel at writing emotions and making your readers feel. Luke's mistreatment at the hands of his classmates and, particularly Kevin, reminded of my own difficult adolescence. You have given voice to those feelings of alienation so beautifully.

Fantastic as always, Nic. You know I love me a good Nuke endgame fic and this one was great and had some fun twists and turns. However, I'd like to put in a request for an epilogue detailing the pirate costume sexytime that we all know was just about to begin...:)

Author's Response:

Thank you, Jim!  Hee, I'm not sure I love the pirate costume enough to write a sexytimes for it.  But, I did love a certain clothing item recently spotted on television.  And of course, I am addicted to endgame fic.  Here, have another...

I am impressed with how much you managed to pack into such a short story. Their personal tragedy is achingly sad. I am particulalrly intrigued, though, that Luke's reaction to the tragedy is very analogous to Noah's during the blindness fiasco, of shutting the other person out, unfairly resenting the other, and getting lost in grief and self pity. The resilience of their relationship has been tested again and again, but they always find their way to healing and reconciliation together. Very moving.

Author's Response: I never really thought about that when I wrote this but you're right of course... Funny how this came out that way... Thanks fore reading it... I'm pleased you found it enjoyable...

Summaey: Visiting Noah in L.A. for the first time, Luke’s plans for a serious, mature talk about their relationship are derailed... by a tiny piece of red fabric. And the man poured into it.

OK, I can live without a pirate costume fic now that you've given us this one. When Jake showed up in that red speedo last Sunday, I could actually feel my solidarity with millions of other viewers having very lustful thoughts about him. A very nice shared experience that was!

And the story was hot and wonderful, of course. They will still probably need to talk through some things, but for these two guys, sex isn't just an act of mutual pleasure, it's their own form of communication. And I think they've said enough right here to know they will be OK going forward.

I love endgames just as much as you do and I smile at the thought that, although we got ONE unsatisfying ending to the show, we have ENDLESS scenarios for how that unsatisfying ending ultimatley became a satisfying one.

Thanks for sharing your talent and your love for these characters. I intend to write some more myself, but I've got to wait until I'm a little less busy :(

Author's Response:

Thank you for your comments. And I'm glad you'll be writing again when you find the time! I look forward to that. :)

I know you're not too crazy about this one, but I thought it was a unique and compelling piece. It's definitley a different kind of endgame fic, really more of a psychological piece on Noah than a romantic story. Taken on that level, I think it suceeds beautifully. Noah triumphs over his dysfunctional and abusive upbringing and learns to fully accept and embrace the love that heals and sets him free-exactly as it should be!

Author's Response:

Thank you!  I actually like it a bit better than when I initially posted it.  I think it was more the disappointment that I didn't come up with something smexy for the prompt that bugged me.  It still makes me a little mopey, but hopefully the schmoopy ending helps!
